Annual Meeting of the Philadelphia Area Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience

The annual meeting of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience will be held on the Queen Lane Campus of Jefferson University on Tuesday, February 9, 2009 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jeff Macklis of Harvard Medical School will be our keynote Grass Traveling Lecturer. His talk is entitled “Molecular Development and Repair of Corticospinal Motor Neuron and other Neocortical Projection Neuron Circuitry.” As in previous years, there will be a juried poster session. The event will conclude with the presentations of awards for outstanding posters and a hosted reception. All interested persons are welcome to participate.

Poster Presentation Session

All may participate: Faculty, students, and post-doctoral fellows. The Eliot Stellar Research Prizes for Neuroscience are in honor of Dr. Stellar's contribution to the Philadelphia Neuroscience community. The best poster presentation at the annual meeting by an undergraduate student, graduate student and postdoctoral fellow will be selected for the prizes. Entrants must be the first author of the presentation and may have only one entry in the competition. Entrants may present posters from the Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience or from other recent meetings. The student's research advisor and all postdoctoral fellows must be members of the local chapter and may join/renew at the time of meeting registration (dues - $20.00). Call for Abstracts and a detailed agenda to follow. Abstract submissions are due by Jan 16, 2009

Abstracts should be submitted to Dr. Elizabeth A Dudkin by email: ead9@psu.edu

Each abstract should fit on a single page with 1.5" right, left, top and bottom margins when printed using Arial 12-point font. Please indicate under which category the presentation is being submitted: undergraduate student, graduate student, post-doctoral fellow, or faculty & include your affiliation on the abstract.

Brain Awareness Week Activities 2009

The Philadelphia Area Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience will host its annual Brain Awareness Week event at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia on March 19 & 20, 2009. We are looking for volunteers to share their interest in neuroscience with school-aged children. Come join the fun. Contact Dr. Sara Jane Ward for more information
